It may not be about reading ability but intolerance for long winded articles. I feel that I have changed myself and I am no spring chicken anymore. First of all if the articles starts with a title that is ambiguous, I just avoid it. I expect the first paragraph to provide some short summary and later provide the details. Sometimes long articles just go round and around; and in such a case. I read the first sentence of each paragraph to get the jest of it. Personally I have even harder time with videos.. If they talk too much, I fast forward it so it is not just about text.

I found most of it to be a common-sense overview of human-to-human communication, albeit dated in some of the examples. Stuff like "be genuinely interested in the other person".
