It mentions that it provides weeks of power, presumably with solar on top - does it just passively decay or is there a prop system on this as well?

Is this actually effective against Alpine? The default install seems to use ! as the placeholder in /etc/shadow instead of * and trying the attack doesn't seem to work.

Does this happen to you a lot? You may have other issues

This is super cool. I think it's the first piece of additional hardware I've even considered pre-ordering.

I did research in this space about eight years ago. Our approach was to look at deformations in the ear canal. Rumor has it that Apple AirPods will have sensors in the ear canal. I was hoping to use those sensors with our app, but it looks like Apple is not going to provide access to the raw sensor data. I expected Apple is going to support subvocal speech pretty soon.

From my understanding decoding via ear deformation requires the mouthing to be quite exaggerated. I am also looking forward to Apple launching it soon though, hopefully it gets more people excited and aware about the category at least

Better sensors will change that

It was inevitable, though you always hope for an exception. I don't think I've ever seen any work of his I didn't deeply appreciate.

I'm afraid that technological sovereignty is secondary to military superiority when the governments in question value might over justice. It seems that you can apply financial leverage to avoid violence but I think everyone has to play ball.

Agreed, this is the kind of steganography that is meant for humans to read. There's no reason a computer couldn't encode meaningful information in the least significant bytes of every 16th pixel or something like that.

The article is about what LLMs can do when generating SVG images, not bitmaps. I think the reason for that is that LLMs can generate the XML text for SVG directly. The implications for AI safety are different, because there might not be any code involved that we can examine. So LLMs could start exchanging hidden messages without humans knowing about it.

But now that I think about it that way, it would probably be more interesting to see what kind of steganography LLMs would use in ordinary text. There's no reason to involve images.

Like when your printer adds secret massages for cops? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Printer_tracking_dots

> Like when your printer adds secret massages for cops

That's not going to have a happy ending...

I've assumed this is why printers are so hell-bent on having internet connectivity: a link between the printed ID and IP address.

> to see what kind of steganography LLMs would use in ordinary text.

Isn't the "watermarking" of LLM text already an example?

That watermarking is not something the LLM chooses to add, neither through training nor in response to any prompt. This article is about the choices LLMs make when explicitly told to hide messages.

>The article is about what LLMs can do when generating SVG images, not bitmaps.

Aha... that is an interesting distinction. I did not think of that. Alongside this, it means you could resize the image and not lose the information.

interesting, wonder which class promulgated that myth

Modern consoles also compile shaders? Ugh, that's the most annoying part of playing RocketLeague right now. The game updates like every day and every time it's updated I need to spend 5ish minutes recompiling (if not more).
