did this post really need to be written by AI?

Hola, thanks for your reply.

Please note that English is not my native language. I used AI to make sure that my technical explanation of the decimal bug was clear and well structured so that the community here could understand it.

I agree that the text structure might look robotic, but the $569.52 unauthorized charge on my credit card right now is 100% real.

Pura vida!

I think it's a frequent misconception that the AI version is going to be clearer or more well-structured or easier to read or understand than what you would write as a non-native-English speaker. It's probably not.

Your situation is not funny, but it reminded me of an old story from the internet in the 1990's, The Neiman Marcus Cookie Recipe

> My daughter & I had just finished a salad at Neiman-Marcus Cafe in Dallas & decided to have a small dessert. Because our family are such cookie lovers, we decided to try the "Neiman-Marcus Cookie". It was so excellent that I asked if they would give me the recipe and they said with a small frown, "I'm afraid not." Well, I said, would you let me buy the recipe? With a cute smile, she said, "Yes." I asked how much, and she responded, "Two fifty." I said with approval, just add it to my tab.

It ends with them being charged $250 not $2.50 and the author shares the recipe with the world as revenge.

do you think a human overcharged them or did an AI?

Can you ask your AI to answer the ultimate question, that being the answer to life, the universe, and everything?

I hadn't tried that question before. Gemini knew the answer.

At the same time, If a python script can be thrown together in 20 minutes, and it will execute hundreds of times at most..... Who really cares if it takes 25 seconds to execute, or 2 minutes as long as it accomplishes all it is intended to do?

In my opinion, what is pretty typical a script will be executed never, once, or thousands of times.

If you are at the point of doing multiple executions, you are probably at the point where converting your script to rust would end up saving time/power. Maybe not all the time (like a manually executed script), but not infrequently.

Can you give me more information on the toaster? I am tired of it toasting slurs into my unlicensed bread....

Firefox with sponsorblock installed and ublock origin?

I haven't been able to watch youtube in the browser for ages. I get like one 10-20s chunk then nothing further. Do you use just the standard block lists?

Works well for me on Firefox with uBlock origin without any special lists.

Personally I use my own fork of FreeTube on desktops, though, falling back to Firefox with uBlock when there are outages.

Are you using a VPN? Youtube will be a jerk to those IPs. I need to set my exit node to either Poland or Albania to watch YT. (The latter incidentally is supposed to act as an ad-blocker due to local legislation banning some types of ads, but I have my own ad-blockers so I cannot confirm.)

I had this issue on Firefox on a Linux machine but didn't see it when on a Mac. I gave up figuring out why -- every other website worked fine.

Your experience is strange, I use the official Chrome (not Chromium) with uBlock Lite and everything works perfectly (except the 5s delay at the start).

Even on the fastest computer I got, I have to wait 2 whole minutes for the website to finish loading. I think they really hate Firefox.

I use Firefox (and Librewolf), and have no issues.

So, it must be some extension or content blocker list causing that issue?

No you see what we do, Is we ask Claude to make no mistakes in implementing the CSPRNG. This way we ensure there are no mistakes in the implementation or mathematics.

I know it’s a joke, but that code wouldn’t pass the DieHard tests. That’s actually one of the tests I did with the XOF I used, a test I ran over 16 years ago.

The issue of the maintainers sanity is the onslaught of random people or LLM's submitting packages, So how is not both quotes equally valid for the intended outcome of describing the restrictions required as to collaborate???

You're right that the outcome may be similar, in that trivial contributions are discouraged. But the reasoning to getting there is completely different. Sqlite's copyright.html talks about copyright, not about maintainer overload.

An otherwise overloaded maintainer of another project may probably be willing to accept individual brilliant contributions from brilliant contributors. Sqlite will not, no matter how brilliant, if the contributor doesn't sign an affidavit. Independent of Sqlite maintainer load.

A known Sqlite contributor who has signed an affidavit, and has a history of good, accepted contributions, may also start spamming trivial contributions that may lead to maintainer overload, and nothing in copyright.html will prevent that.

Youtube launched 1 year and 8 months before being acquired by google.... It's largely semantics to say that what Youtube is today, isn't a direct result of Google's ownership for nearly 20 years now....

From talking to someone that worked at YouTube for 15 years, they still had a lot of core Python code in 2016 that was legacy from the OG company/team and that code needed to be transitioned to follow the Google way of doing things in C++/Go.

I don't think it was distinct enough from the Google culture like Android was at the start of the acquisition but it seems they had leeway to do their own thing.

Google had Google Video and couldn't hold up, that's why they bought Youtube.

What YT is now:

- ads every now and then

- addictive shorts no one needs

- suggested videos nobody asked for

- geo ban of videos

No concept of language in a user facing way. No filter by language no search by language. On the contrary searches are translated before running and return all languages, videos are dubbed even when you speak the original language, same but with titles being translated etc. Search being shit is kind of on par with being a Google product though. I wonder if they had any language preferences before Google bought them. I don't remember that far back.

Huh? It's not semantics to point out that a project wasn't launched by Google, when the point was about a successful project launch from Google.

Seems like at a glance that website if it sees a referral from ycombinator, it redirects to that image.... In a private window it loads the 'intended' page.....
