I have 15 years' experience in designing web and mobile applications end-to-end. I specialize in founding design at startups where I own everything design, including product design, design systems, landing pages, brand identities, and marketing design. I love designing complex, data-heavy products.
I guess the hardcovers are better because they are not printed in India. From what I've seen with nonfiction books, the ones printed in India are only softcovers—pathetic paper/build quality, and poor readability because they're smaller than their US counterpart (usually 19.8 cm long in India compared to 23.5 cm in the US), and the US layout is shrunk to fit the Indian size. So, any hardcover is imported from the US and thus of better quality.
The article could have been more useful if its point was just 'use sufficient contrast'. As it is, the article is overly prescriptive, and feels like trying too hard to be sensational or cute.
Thank you for SumatraPDF. I love that it's faster than any other PDF/ebook viewer I tried. I hate that EPUB content doesn't flow fluidly, which IMO defeats the purpose of the format, and that there is no way to customize its look in the advanced settings, because of which I couldn't use it to read ebooks.
One can try to make 'me things', and strive to make them good enough, or good, or even to their best extent, but not necessarily the best out there, at least always.
