Congrats on the launch.

Some feedback after using it for a few minutes; It's a good effort and the software is useable. I understand there is a lot more to come. it would be nice to have:

- ability to import files into tracks from a menu or context menu

- keyboard short cut keys for for splitting, etc.

- automatic crossfade when moving clips into each other

- envelopes

- effects

- I think Sony Vegas had one of the most intuitive audio editing experiences when working with tracks and clips, maybe adopt what worked from it.

thanks so much for your feedback!

- context menu file import is a no brainer, added to my backlog.

- keyboard shortcut for split is command+e

- automatic crossfade when dragging usually works with the shift modifier key, added to my backlog

- envelops: this feature was requested by another user already, so top of my backlog.

- effects... yes, of course. i will not implement the in place processing but insert and send effect like it's done regular DAW. so stay tuned.

Amazing! I wonder what type of adhesive is he using, and how does he apply it?

I would imagine wheat or rice paste.

Edit: He has a lot of footage of him cutting out and placing letters and wires on his YouTube channel, but it doesn't show him applying any adhesive. Now I really want to know how he does it.

Yes, I noticed this too!

At least it passes the Car Wash Test this time.

Meh, I feel that the car wash test is probably the worst question of all of those LLM test questions. The question is basically logically inconsistent and expect the model to work around the inconsistency.

It seems like a fine question to me. If the question is "logically inconsistent" (IMO it's more that it's vague if you don't say why you're going there), then we want a model to respond with a request asking for clarification that resolves the inconsistency to generate a correct answer, or an answer that outlines the different cases. Some models even fail when you say that you need to wash your car in the prompt.

Yeah I guess it being vague is more what I meant. But even if you told AI you need to wash the car, then why are you asking AI in the first place whether you should walk there or drive there. The question just doesn't make too much sense to me, doesn't look like it makes sense to the AI's either.

Riddles are IQ tests; not actual problems that you need to solve.

Why did you get a commercial bottling license?

Well after software I wanted a life that involved a lot less computer usage and a lot more being on my feet. So now I sell beverages via a few food trucks and also syrups people can use to make draft sodas/mocktails. We make everything ourselves because we’re all-natural everything, with the lone exception of Coke products because you just can’t get people to drink anything else.

I basically went from no real knowledge to being able to develop commercial-scale beverages and walk them through all phases of production.

The money’s not as good as software (but decent) and being active rather than sedentary with most of my time has done wonders for my health and mood. Man was not meant to sit in one place for long hours daily and I’m just not a gym rat no matter how many times I tried so I just reengineered my life.

Seconded that I'd love to hear more.

A couple years back I bought a "cooking from your garden" book that introduced my family to shrubs, and since then we've been making a lot of home made drinks. We mostly do different types of shrubs and tepeches. I've found that doing better than store bought isn't very hard, but I have no desire to try and scale any of my recipes.

The other thing I used to do before I had a kid was make really fancy alcoholic snacks. Super labor intensive, but really good. For example I made a jello piña colada. I'd sweeten canned coconut cream with some white sugar on the stove, add gelatin, and some rum. let it cool a bit. Drain a can of pineapples and keep the juice, use the juice to make pineapple jello again mixed with rum, with a piece of pineapple in the middle. Join the two jellos when they are both half set. (I used silicone molds.)

Tada! Bougie piña colada jello shots.

With a kid now I am limiting my creativity to non-alcoholic drinks. 90% of the shrub recipes online are absurdly basic. Honestly doing "better than average" is easy because the bar is so damn low.

>with the lone exception of Coke products because you just can’t get people to drink anything else.

gotta say I don't like Pepsi, but I love Jarritos Cola and Fritz-Kola, they're both bitter enough. Most other Colas I've had in the U.S are too darn sweet.

Fritz-Kola used to be even more bitter, until they dropped the caffeine content to sane levels.

That's a really inspiring story to me. Do you have any more info about your business e.g website or blog? (I realise these are computer things and exactly what you were moving away from.)

You should get your website up and running and start writing and tell others not only how you made it, but also why. What you felt in this change in your life etc.

I guess a big part of this is figuring out how to make money doing that. I wonder how did you get there.

I've always had the desire to make soft drinks and I have a similar concern about how we are sitting the entire day...

> Well after software I wanted a life that involved a lot less computer usage and a lot more being on my feet.

Oh man, that's so me at this stage of my life. But I cannot easily get out of the rat race, with family responsibilities and mortgages and all...

Same here. Despite having intentions of not improving lifestyle with income (so I could be FIRE), it happened anyway with kids. I love my kids (of course) but they are so much more expensive than I ever could have imagined. Cost of living has just skyrocketed in the past 6 or 7 years (cue the 11 year old saying "Siiiiiixxxxx Seeeevvvvvennnn") and wages haven't changed much. Unless something radically changes, I'm chained to this desk for at least then next 10 years.

>If chimpanzees - one of the species closest to humans genetically - could do so without human constructs of religion, ethnicity and political beliefs, then "relational dynamics may play a larger causal role in human conflict than often assumed", they added.

Aren't religion, ethnicity and political beliefs strong factors in human relational dynamics?

We tend to get a lot of things backwards when considering the hows and whys of behavior. The underlying nature is diffuse and chaotic, hard to describe or point at. These superficial differences are built on top of or used to leverage our inclinations and so provide perfect looking reasons.

True.

That said... the term "underlying nature" may be part of that backwardsness.

We intuitively model human behavior as underlying beliefs and stuff leading to a rationale, leading to behavior. But really, it's often the other way.

There is an underlying behavior, behavioral pattern or whatnot. The rationale, beliefs and suchlike are overlying.

We do know these things exist, but tend to think of them as pathlogies and abhorations... like motivated reasoning. But, conscious reasoning following an intuitively reached conclusion is probably the standard model for human reasoning.

Factors in. Not identical to. They might not have phrased that very well, but the point is that you don't need any relationship much more complex than personal acquaintance to fuel this kind of violence.

Not only strong factors but some of the main human relational dynamics. Of the three only ethnicity goes a bit being pure relational

What does this mean?

Nice. It would've been cool to see what the location information in the EXIF looked like, if it were there.

The D5 doesn't have built in GPS, and adding it requires an attachment. I don't know if the smartphone app works on that model, but it is from the same year as my D5600 which does support it. The app provides GPS but also drains the battery fast. I turned airplane mode on after the first dead battery.

GPS might work out there though: https://www.nasa.gov/directorates/somd/space-communications-...

If you use a regular smartphone in space (or technically in orbit for this argument), it’s probably not going to get a fix because GPS receivers are required to stop locating when reaching some speed to not be export controlled. And that speed is picked so people don’t build missiles, orbital speed will be higher.

I don't use canvas in Obsidian. Tried it when it was released, but haven't used it since. I like Obsidian and want to get the most out of it. I'm curious as too how folks are using canvas in Obsidian.

Might just be a question of taste or personal predisposition. I’m only in Obsidian for the canvas, and I spend almost all my time in it. It’s extremely helpful for me to be able to put all of my buckets up in front of me at once, resize them, rearrange them, color-code them.
