Regardless of if a jewish civil rights organization is fine with his two straight arm salutes from the chest at someone else's presidential inauguration, I and everyone else can (and should!) still have our own opinions on it and the following double down in response to the criticism.
To make your implications explicit:
Do you agree with the anti defamation league position you're claiming that that wasnt a nazi salute?
Do you think it was anything like one? Was it enough to be in bad taste and worth assuring people it was not afterward? If it was you would you have tried to clear up the misunderstanding after?
Do you think the person you posted this in reply to should change their mind about musk and his actions here because they are genuinely misunderstanding a good faith situation?
Oof that's a nasty way to characterize the people who ended up killing themselves after falling into a proverbial hole talking to these companys' products during mental crisis.
You can feel like companies have no responsibility for how their products are used but it might be worth showing some grace to the people who are dead now by not trying to downplay what happened to them by implying it was just like everyone else's experience of "asking ai questions".
Not sure if the comment was regarding the suicides. That would be a bit gruesome. But the US had been known to judge in favor of people being stupid and suing the company. Specifically this case comes to mind: https://abc7.com/amp/post/socal-woman-sues-starbucks-spilled...
But also cases like the 2 girls suing Snapchat and settling for unknown amounts of money.
This involved drive-through service, just like the 1994 McDonalds coffee case. Perhaps businesses should just refuse to serve hot coffee via such a drive through, since it stands to reason that people who happen to be sitting in a car will be quite likely to spill their drink in a dangerous way.
My plan was to try to find the "answer" for videos in comments. Never really got around doing it, but LLMs make the possibilities more interesting and easier.
Edit: this is also a good opportunity to ship something like this: https://hn.youtldr.com, like Karpathy's HackerTube, but with the new videos from "HN-vetted" channels.
Don't worry, this time it will be totally different.
Snark aside, I wish you the best and hope you don't get laid off in the next round. Do good work, keep your network and resume fresh, and hope for the best.
Folks aren't generally expecting this kind of thing in my personal experience either. I wonder if it's something about people not expecting lies/deceit/abuse they haven't personally thought of before. We all can consider lying or stealing or even picking a pocket but very few consider massive, sociopathic abuse and corruption so it doesn't trigger that suspicion sometimes.
I cannot get people in my life to take any digital privacy seriously. A good example is when I couldn't convince a friend about the LG TV sampling your screen and phoning home, even with all the articles recently. I think this is why we like magic, fall for scams, and don't demand more from our politicians.
They aren't confused about how difficult it is to avoid same sex options in game. They spelled it out clearly - they decided "mainstream appeal" should not even bring up the option and doing so is probably pressure from people they don't like ("activists").
Karens aren't misunderstanding how to mind their own business or live-and-let-live; they are trying to enforce what they see as (or wish were) social norms and don't give a damn about the perspective of the folks on the receiving end of their chirping.
I wish I knew more to share but I've read about a few things from floating mines as I think the comment was implying to "jumping" mines that are on the ground but launch or shoot up at low altitude aircraft to uav "loitering munitions" (not really a "mine" but the point is roughly the same).
She was acquitted of several counts of wire fraud to defraud patients, but that does not mean harm was not found to customers. I haven’t been able to find the specific statute, but essentially the jury found that the prosecution didn’t prove all of the elements of that charge beyond a reasonable doubt. We’ll likely never know the details, jury deliberations are secret. But there was absolutely harm to patients. Balwani was also charged with patient fraud and WAS convicted on those counts.
