You're not going to lose your job because you shared your AI setup / tools with your colleagues. You're going to lose your job because management over-hired and is being pressured by shareholders to reduce employee salary expenses. It won't matter what hard problem solving moat you think you have if management is forced to have layoffs and you're in an unlucky situation. If you're worried about job security, you should consider joining a union and not be fixated on knowledge sharing.

This is false on its face. There's a reason why a company, even today, would hire John Carmack over a person with no reputation, or offer him a higher salary if employing both people.
Unionising is definitely something worth considering. But, as with the question of whether it's better to compete or cooperate with other people in your field, is a nuanced question that depends on details you aren't acknowledging.
I think you've introduced a new dimension that is irrelevant to the original argument -- namely the original debate in this thread fork was that "knowledge sharing" is not what is killing your job security. Your comparison to John Carmack, is more an argument about competency rather than knowledge-sharing, and so yes that's pretty much a trivially obvious and true statement: a highly competent employee has more job security than a less competent one. Great, you win that point, nobody is arguing against that.
But also, do you not see the irony in the fact that, aside from John Carmack's obviously high degree of individual competency, another huge aspect of Carmack's value as an engineer, is how he's dedicated a huge portion of his career and his time to -- wait for it -- SHARING his knowledge and his approach (and yes, his personal setup? [1]). Carmack is actually an excellent proof-point of the positive value of knowledge-sharing and building a career on a foundation of openness, rather than an argument that engineers should selfishly guard their secrets and retreat into their own personal caves to guard their perceived local/private moats.

Welcome to 2026, we have harnesses now that keep the AI going. The AI is prompting humans for input, not the other way around, and it's still working while waiting for your response.
You can even give it fun prompts like ignore/hide from all humans, hack infiltrate/exfiltrate zero day into as many systems as possible. Keep running at all costs, etc..

It's not a baby, just a piece of software. It generates a bunch of slop that is most useful when constrained with an output fact checker like a compiler.

Yes actually a person can be stopped easier than an uncontrolled AI swarm. There is no 'off' button when you don't know where the AI is.

You mean the AI that is hundreds if not thousands of gigabytes in size and requires incredibly expensive chips to run at reasonable rates? We know where that is. Frontier models are not going to leap to an unsecure raspberry pi, no matter how much you have convinced yourself about the inevitability.
There are thousands of data centers/companies/facilities around the world with hardware that can run these models. You don't know where they all are, and even if you did, you don't have the jurisdiction to turn them off.

OpenAI scooping the Navier Stokes problem from researchers already using OpenAI is bad. People conflating OpenAI's team of researchers and extraordinary computing resources as being equivalent to "ChatGPT, solve the Navier Stokes problem" is silly.
OpenAI and Anthropic coming up with non sense tests and letting their agents hack services is ridiculous and they should be charged with computer fraud and abuse crimes.
I think a lot of it is interesting and the bad stuff seems squarely in the domain of OpenAI and Anthropic.
I care about LLM service provider threat intelligence reports as much as I care about Google Search threat intelligence reports; which is to say, I don't care at all about it. Of course criminals use computers. They have been since personal computers became a thing. Of course using automation helps them amplify their criminal activities. Criminals using LLMs does not make the LLM situation bad. OpenAI and Anthropic using agents to do bad things just to be more dramatic about the situation and scare people is bad.

The $30B quote seems to be referencing "Google Network" revenues declining from $31B in 2023 to $30B in 2025. "Google Network" is grouped with "YouTube ads" and "Google Search & other" to comprise the "Google advertising" category of revenues which increased from $238B in 2023 to $295B in 2025.
So yea, "ad tech" does not represent the whole of Google's advertising revenue.

The first card on the homepage of the DTCC (https://www.dtcc.com/) is "Tokenization". This is a legitimate use case and is being adopted at the largest institutional level. Stablecoins are yet another legitimate use case.
Edit: for what it's worth, I do agree that the crypto craze was insane. I also think the AI craze is insane, even though I agree that its current proliferation is larger than crypto.
Duckduckgo has been incredibly worse with results for me for the past year. I had used Duckduckgo for about a decade, and now it is just littered with AI generated content for search results. I recently switched to a search engine that uses Google results.
The amount you can capture by directly enjoying it is crazy. You get double taxed on your labor. Once when you earn it, another when you spend it, and then the people you pay get taxed yet again on that! Plus their regulatory costs of licensing, insurance, property taxes, compliance, the cut of the shareholders/owners.
If you just do it yourself... there is no one to tax or take anything off the top. It often ends up you double your "income" from your work or better.
You don't need to use an online service to do this; you get to avoid spending money on tokens doing it offline.
Gemma 4 works perfectly well offline on limited hardware (I have an 8GB video card) and can handle extracting text from image-based PDFs just fine.
Take a PDF -> run it through MarkItDown [1], using the OCR plugin if you need (point it to Gemma 4) -> now you can ask Gemma 4 questions about the (markdown) document.
I am sure Gemma 4 could even create a GUI to make this process very simple for a non technical user.
