Apple intelligence is listed as 29 GB in the Storage settings. Which should be the amount of space you get back.

MacOS 27 is also diffrent in that it does still downloads the data for EU users and removes or hides options in menues to dissable functionality. This means users lose the said space when upgrading to 27.

Apple Intelligence is available on macOS in the EU. It's only disabled on iOS/iPadOS.

DMCA § 1201 makes reverse engineering modern consoles illegal.

Any modern game console has some form of decryption, which can be argued to prevent access.

This is when we run into the chicken/egg problem because you can't write emulation without violating 1201. It is also in part the argumentation Nintendo used in the yuzu case.

One argument that I’d like to see made is that DMCA takedown requests, which are intended to enforce copyright is the wrong enforcement mechanism because the 9th Circuit, in SONY v. CONNECTIX said that the functional aspects of emulation can only be protected under patent law.

Ok, what if the emulator that is distributed is not functional, but to make it into a functional emulator, you have to (1) compile it, OR (2) make small modifications to it (that are distributed through a different channel), or both.

Not just modern consoles. Nintendo has had ‘security’ hardware built in since the NES (the CIC chip)

The difference is those security chips were used to prevent unlicensed games, not to prevent the games from being played on unlicensed consoles (emulators).

A NES clone without a CIC will play games fine.

> Marketplace developers will need to pay €0.50 for each first annual install of their marketplace app. First annual installs included in your Apple Developer Program membership can’t be used for marketplace apps.

Apple really makes you pay for it.

Both are problems to solve, architecture is as much of a problem as data.

Data has the problem of getting successively tainted by LLMs as well as the lack of open high-quality datasets.

While architecture has the problem of shifting too much focus on a flawed architecture - transformers.

got attention from this tweet: https://twitter.com/jarredsumner/status/1675732777873063936?...

Quote for people without account or rate limited:

"When you do uint8array.buffer in JSC the first time, it calls slowDownAndWasteMemory()" -- links to the github

The tweet has ~60k views, and 24 retweets.

alas that's not accessible anymore

To try to prevent others from joining this argument: twitter is currently not allowing you to read tweets without being logged in. Hence, it can be both available and not available.

If it cannot be read without logging in, then it is inaccessible. That's a choice twitter gets to make, but to claim tweets are accessible because some people can read them is no different from posting links to a private facebook group and saying "you just need to be a member of that group".

That said, I was saying it is inaccessible because I am getting error messages trying to load it.

>Hence, it can be both available and not available.

So Musk has given us the real life Schrödinger's cat?

If I never auth again, Twitter doesn't exist?

Last I checked a tweet isn't a real life cat any more than an electron is.

almost certainly an innocent mistake, not "lying"

That's far from true and simply indicates the direction (and intensity) of your own political passions. This is one of the most reliable phenomena on HN: everyone thinks their team is the one being repressed. People with opposite passions think the site is overrun by your team and that the mods are in your pocket.

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26148870 has an amusing list of examples. I suppose I should make an updated list sometime.

That's Twitter for you, these days.

"Something went wrong, try reloading"

And even then, I've never had a Twitter account, so not sure I'd be able to see it now anyways.

Sure seems inaccessible to me.

GP is referring to the tweet itself, which is behind an login screen if you don't have a Twitter account.

Your definition of accessible reminds me of Cave Johnson.

"Bean counters said I couldn't fire a man for being in a wheelchair. Did it anyway. Ramps are expensive."

But he is not lying, it is inaccessible for some people, myself included, I get the same error:

https://i.imgur.com/44KNIlg.jpg

For what it's worth, I can't access it either, so there are probably many of us.

Yeah, but based on his musk comment I'm going to assume anything we say isn't relevant.

He's accusing people of lying because they hate musk, when they're saying content is not accessible on a site that is currently documented to be suffering basic response problems. It's the kind of reactive BS you get from idiots who aren't interested in facts or reality so shrug.

>It's the kind of reactive BS you get from idiots who aren't interested in facts or reality so shrug.

Lying because you hate Musk is the reactive BS from an idiot who isn't interested in facts or reality.

"Something went wrong. Try reloading."

> Y'all's hatred of Musk is driving you to lie.

My god, my hatred for Musk has caused twitter to go down. Wow, I didn't know I had such power. JFC.

There is a project like this: https://github.com/darlinghq/darling

The question should be "why". The reason is that we find ways to utialize it. Once Moores law or the essence of it comes to an halt, more effort will be put into making things more efficient.

Maybe that's even a bit too pesimistic. Cloud computing already gives companies incentive to focus on efficiency for cost saving and there is a growing trend to write simpler more performant software to replace existing tools, however not specifically in the general purpose computing space.

The thought process of apple is that every saved person is worth whatever cost it might have especially if you as a company don't get to carry it. And the topic is fairly hard to discuss given that justification. You only need one single case where the feature was helpful to win the argument.

False alarms may cause someone in real distress to not receive the help they need.

This is exactly the point. Tying up phone dispatchers time is annoying and marginal. Sending limited search and rescue teams off on wild goose chases could have fatal consequences.

I think the bug tracker around jpegXL support showed high interest and support for it already².

Having it opt-in also does means most websites can't use it given that the vast majority of their userbase are on default settings.

It might be good to add a respectful comment on the issue on github to emphasize the UX issues it creates.
