p.p.s jp2a FTW.

and well der. Mplayer with ascii rendering. Pft. Of course. But you knew that right?

I flipped out the first time I saw mplayer ascii rendering. I'm thinking of projecting Rashomon ASCII-version at an art show sometime. Or any classic film with deeply emotional topics, intricate facial expressions, reduced to 7-bit projections.

I had an Airtel 10GB/Month Airtel account for five months this year while in India travelling.

Drove me CRAZY that my video upload provider Vimeo was one of the blocked sites.

Norway: Cards for everything. There's no cost associated. Plus your bank card is also your ID. Chip & PIN.

Same in NZ. I buy 1.50 lolly purchases from the dairy on my EFTPOS card. (No transaction cost).

If you setup Hubot to use Freenode then be aware that you'll want to set:

heroku config:add HUBOT_IRC_UNFLOOD="false"

Otherwise just running /hubot help will flood the channel and it'll get kicked.

I recently added a HTTP route to hubot `/hubot/help` that you can visit if you enable the HTTP support to view the help on a page rather than flood channels.

Not working in Opera 12.00 Build 1467 on OS X 10.7.4

Pretty in Chrome Canary Version 22.0.1221.0 though.

Neither working (and so far the only really bad rendering issue I've seen) on Android, using Firefox Beta.

The code snippets are overlayed with black 'blocks'.

I find that the ITA iOS app from http://itasoftware.com/ (Google owned) consistently brings me the best prices and then I book direct through the airlines website.

I fly mainly International.

One-liner: $ for i in `seq 1 512`; do echo 'select @@version;' | mysql -h 127.0.0.1 -u root mysql --password=X 2>/dev/null && break; done

Cue Bogus Bogus story link...

Irony alert: Database overload for an article on lightweight websites.

I also find it odd that the masthead for the blog is a 737KB PNG...I don't know why you wouldn't use a JPG - at a high quality level it's virtually indistinguishable and 1/4 of the size.

It's a little pedantic, but if you're going to talk about how sites should be lightweight and then use a sizeable PNG image you're sort of opening yourself up for criticism.

They could at least run the PNG through a png compressor and shave 91kb off the size (tested on pngout) and without any loss in quality. Would save a lot of bytes over time...

The SmushIt image compressor in Yahoo's YSlow quickly became one of my favorite pocket-sized web dev tools.

She's tweeted saying that was a mistake and she'll fix it.

A good lesson though to remember before calling someone out publicly. We all make mistakes, and the author is not exempt from this rule.

Yeah, but she's a blogger and Camper is a company worth millions of dollars.

I don't expect good design from bloggers. If they say smart things, I'll read. I expect good design from people who theoretically want my money, because it's their job not to irritate me when I'm trying to pay them.

I've avoided buying products from companies who make terrible design decisions. Not even to punish them, just to avoid having to deal with the pre-product bullshit.

International Space Station space station. /pedantry :)

of course you are right, fixed ;)
