Loved it. Adding a hint what the haiku is about might help. At the end credit who wrote the haiku too?

His point is to rethink the purpose education... Yes, there's a privellaged sense in assuming every student has equal access to time, resources, and family dynamics and economics. I feel the idea that universities and education system in general needs to move away from purely academic style of education to practical startup-forcused is needed for the new era.

You’re talking about trade schools with 3 units in financial accounting.

This “rethinking of education” you’re on about is already incredibly rigid from the start, and will not give young people the generalist skills to weather cycles of hype and economic downturns.

> move away from purely academic style of education to practical startup-forcused is needed for the new era.

The new era does not seem to be startup or small business focused, that period already was - at around the time google and company started. Back then, startup actually meant small business starting up.

What is puzzling is why do you need to highjack academia, make it stop doing academic and turn it into incubator or business hub. VCs have enough money to create own business hubs. And they can even admit people who are not from most flashy universities there. There is no reason to take over academia and stop it from its original purpose.

woah, never knew.. so cool.

But this is how ads work? The entire concept of programtic ads is based on bidding for the highest leverage time and placement with $$.. So even you have the best product and your competitor outbids you, they get seen more and most likely get bought more?

And even if you go into a normal retail shop with a product in mind, all the available options showcased can "distort" your actual intent. Because that's what the shop is designed to do: to showcase, and even in that showcase, some products are placed/showcased so they catch your attention.

I doubt anyone chooses to create shoddy products just so they have more money to market them..

this is so cool. claude should actually opensource part of their harness so the community can improve it

context windows and sessions already get maxed out faster with fable and opus 5 and cost a ton. this should lead to significant savings. checking it out

*(and ingesting into mer personal ai builder /hamzaish. opensource)

it's a detailed report that tracked ai news, tools, and events over the past quarter. kind of new but very helpful

no doubt about the advancements in AI, but why resort to these PR stunts and statements when OpenAI should be focused on meaningful advances in tech and ethics.. goes the same for Anthropic. I prefer Microsoft and how elegantly Satya and Tim have handled AI

> but why resort to these PR stunts and statements

Obvious hyperbole is one of the best way to distract from more subtle malicious behaviour. If idiot Altman says stuff like this every day, then no one will pay attention when AI slowly replaces a lot of functions in society to the detriment of it. A lot of people just don't get that - they like to point out that AI claims ARE hyperbole to seem smart, whereas they are being taken the hardest because they don't realize that AI can cause just as much disruption even without any of the hyperbole.

Key point: AGI - actually, whether or not AI is truly intelligent is really irrelevant. The combination of AI + "smart and devious human" is already intelligent and can already be malicious.

Because OpenAI and Anthropic are hemorrhaging money so need all the investment and billions coming in that they can get. Easy way to do that is to have the big scary/groundbreaking comments and headlines so anyone with any money goes "Wow take my money before I miss the train!".

It depends. Is it just a PR stunt, or does Altman actually believe it? If he genuinely believes it, saying so may be unwise, may expose him to be deluded, but is not just PR (except maybe bad PR).

I think Dario Amodei, for all of his intelligence, believes the hype and is experiencing full-on AI delusions. His recent interviews and writings have taken on a distinctly religious tone (as have other tech leaders like Peter Thiel), which is a hallmark of delusional thinking. In his head, he is the creator of a sort of techno-deity, allowing him to think of himself as not only a man of consequence, but the greatest man of consequence to have ever lived.

On Altman, he's the opposite. I think he realizes that much of the tech world is engaged in delusional thinking and he's squeezing it for everything its worth. The injection of the word "like" in the middle of his statement ("We are now, like, in the singularity") betrays the fact that he doesn't believe a word of this. Even he has trouble saying it out loud.
