Recently its taken over and I can't switch back to Assistant on Android. Now I have timers that run for a bit and then disappear, and whenever I'm driving and use voice to call it brings up the phone number and requires me to press again to dial.
Absolutely frustrating and I don't understand how this can be pushed as the default.
I can only assume its another scenario where they disable all the features because I'm not in the US, but then never tested it.
First time Gemini popped up in gmail I asked it what the best open source alternative to gsuite was and it and disappeard in a puff of smoke, never to be seen again, I don't even know how to ask it back for a second taunting.
Google discontinued Assistant in the first week of September, 2026; it was ostensibly 'replaced' by Gemini then. They should have allowed both until the kinks were worked out of Gemini.
In the UK, but parking quite often these days has machines that are out of order so please use one of these 500 apps "for your convenience".
At the market, there is a high cost to managing cash and so some of the small sellers will only accept cash reluctantly or not sell because they can't break notes.
Cash is basically dead here already; it's been months since I needed to go to an ATM and I no longer carry coins, apart from a few pounds in the car for parking. But even then parking is mostly cashless (yes, annoying app problem). Even the compressed air machine at the petrol station takes £1 contactless. Street food vendors etc seem to have gone cashless so they can avoid the inconvenience and cost of cash handling (banks hate taking coins).
Parking is a special case because the meters aren't attended by people.
Guarantee any individual market stall seller would rather take exact cash than not make a sale at all. Small firms might not, since their cashiers have to work in the process the owner sets. Owner-operators will do anything for money or soon go out of business.
The original design used two projector screens, one for each wall, alternating with left- and right- eye views, with the user wearing shutter glasses keeping the vision in sync, while wearing a head tracker. They did use 7 SGIs (6 VGX workstations and a Personal Iris) for the system.
I watched some VR videos of DJ sets that I found very immersive. I think the trick was that the camera was at audience level and I could turn around and see people dancing around me on all sides.
I watched another VR concert that was just the performer and no audience, and that was kind of dull.
Personally the biggest problem (outside the Ctrl/cmd c/v conflict) is that as a UK ISO user, Macs botched the key on the top left, next to the 1.
I subsequently have to set my Mac keyboard layout to PC to fix backticks and remove that key that is never used, and rely on my touch typing.
It does also mean that no one will ever try to type on my laptop.
This irks me also, more than I'd normally admit. A couple of solutions I discovered over the years; one is to use `hidutil property --set` from the command line for UserKeymappings to overwrite the non us backslash to the backtick (I can't remember the specific codes for the keys, but you can find them online), however, this was cumbersome when occasionally using an external keyboard (I prefer ISO over ANSI) or if you restart the machine.
Eventually I settled on Karabiner Elements, an app that lets you create a simple modification specifically to target the Mac internal keyboard where you can map `non_us_backslash` (that strange unused key) to `grave_accent_and_tilde` which fixes this.
I actually really like having § at that position. I have it mapped to a Quake-style terminal, and § means it's not only the correct key, but I don't have to give up a useful key for it.
(This may not translate well for USians; Quake disregarded keymaps, so the console wasn't actually on ~, but on "the key that would be labelled ~ in the US". On UK-PC, that's backtick, on Uk-Mac, that's §.)
I do the same. The British PC layout is relatively recent as well, since when I had a Mac in 2013 it didn't exist, and the keyboard layout was the main factor why I ditched it.
Back on Mac now with British PC and it's much less frustrating to use the keyboard. Plenty of other frustrations instead. I'd prefer to be on Linux but the hardware is just too good.
A non-carbon containing fuel that is almost entirely created by burning fossil fuels is effectively the same (and often worse) than just using the fossil fuels directly.
Biodiesel or biomethane looks at first glance to escape this, but it has serious other costs.
Is almost entirely fossil-fuel created doesn't mean it has to be almost entirely fossil-fuel created. You know, just like observing that cars are almost entirely burning fossil fuels doesn't mean cars must burn fossil fuels.
