A workaround to the canary is to every month release an affidavit that says that you have not received an NSL last month. The month you receive one you do not release one.
The entire premise of the canary, and this discussion, is that you cannot (currently, legally) be compelled to lie, you can merely be compelled to not tell the truth.
If they could, we would not be observing any changes in warrant canaries, ever.
Welcome to the real world, where armchair legal opinions don't matter. A canary is a way of communicating information about the NSL, which is prevented by the gag order of the NSL. The courts see through the canary for the transparent practice that it is. And guess what? These days they side with the government, not the recipient.
Literally the US can dictate what kind arms they can develop. It is required they comply to receive consideration for US military aid and to remain under the US nuclear umbrella (from other nuclear armed countries like China, India, Russia, etc...).
Those countries also don't want to spend too much money on their military. So they can't develop nukes, their citizens don't want that. We actually want them to spend more, not less, like Japan. South Korea actually built automatic turret guns that shoot without human control. So I call BS on the evil us wants to stop them from building robots.
Maybe you're running on an embedded processor that can do sin/cos/tan with high performance but sinh performance is bad. Maybe part of your project needs to depend on an old version of sinh with a correctness bug so that you can reproduce existing calculations, so you don't want any other parts of the code depending on sinh. Maybe your legal team doesn't want you using sinh because they believe the implementation might infringe some patent.
