But if it is placebo, obviously he wouldn't notice any placebo change for local models, since he KNOWS he is using an immutable local model. That comparison only works if he doesn't know what model he is using.

I suppose you have a point, there is room for bias in perception and it could explain my sensed degradation of service, however, it doesnt explain the failure of tests, which isn't tied to my internal perception.

That's like going to the pub and concluding that 100% of people currently alive are at the pub, because everyone you see is at the pub.

No traveler is going to observe me sitting alone in my apartment (hopefully).

We've always used metaphors like that when talking about computers, without anyone having any complaints.

What about metaphors like similes?

Or “smartphones”.

I just tried googling "fentanyl fold" and switching to the video tab, and zero of the first ten results were AI. They were also mostly not from YouTube. I also tried the same search on YouTube, and no AI there either among the first ten results (I didn't bother with the Shorts). I don't know why we get so different results.

> I don't know why we get so different results.

That's how everyone experiences everything at google, youtube. and many other websites. Your experience can be drastically different from the next persons for reasons that are never explained to you and can be entirely out of your control.

Are you in Europe? Google was sued to stop prioritising YouTube in video results.

Have seen this across the planet, it's not unique to Europe, I end up adding youtube to the search query because instagram or tiktok isn't what I'm looking for ever but that makes up the bulk of the results, instagram won't even show me the video without a login and is at the top wtf

If you’re logged in you get wildly different results from someone else’s. I have turned off history on my google account to make it give me a “neutral” search result, but it still seems to take a lot of info like my location, language and device type into account.

> people that cannot give a fuck about writing coherent thoughts down

That's clearly not the type of people they are talking about. For some people expressing their thoughts in words is really, really hard. It doesn't mean they don't give a damn. Just like being in a wheelchair doesn't necessarily make you lazy.

At the risk of sounding extremely insensitive, I am not interested in hearing the thoughts of someone if for them expressing them into words is really, really hard. I would be interested in reading the 30% or so that comes from them, but not at the cost of having to skim through the rest of the slop.

My attention is a finite resource.

Then don't read it. You're not as important as you think you are.

That's what TFA is about

Do you realize there is no comment on this entire website of any real importance, including yours? Someone saying their reasons for agreeing with the article isn't something worthy of shut-downs and insults.

> For some people expressing their thoughts in words is really, really hard.

I suspect it is for everybody, but I might be blowing smoke up my own ass.

A fork implies that it builds upon code from another repository. I wouldn't use the word fork to mean "inspired by". I think it takes away from the effort that the author has put in. Anyone can create a fork of a project with the click of a button.

> Competitors may have copied most of the form factor

Is this satire making fun of how Apple often "invents" things that has been on the market for years, or did you mean to write "Apple as usual copied from competitors"?

Instead of spending 45 minuter discussing back and forth whether Tim Burton is still alive, we can take five seconds to look it up, and then move on to more interesting topics.

Discussing back and forth whether Tim Burton is still alive is a rabbit hole worth exploring.

Not sure what would be more interesting than that.

What does your practice recovery run look like? I've got backup set up, but I don't know how to best test it. For example, do you restore everything from Hetzner, or some random sample?

I don't like these staged backup for these reasons. Every step (e.g. NAS backup to Hetzner) can cause an error, so adding steps increases the probability of error. Personally, I just back up directly from my machines to a local storage server and to a cloud object storage with object lock (so that e.g. ransomware encryption or attempts to remove the data do not work).

What cloud object storage do you use? I went with Hetzner because I was optimizing for price.

Right now, I just restore everything to a new folder and make sure that I can stand up Immich, Forgejo, etc. again and point it there and have it working. DB backups for Immich are handled automatically, but for Forgejo I had to write a custom script that does a dump of the DB every night. I'm not sure I could do a partial Immich/Forgejo restore since it would be missing so many files.

> How overworked would a doctor need to be to hallucinate you told them about microdosing psillocybin when you never said anything of the sort

From personal experience I can tell you that it does indeed happen. Not specifically micro-dosing psilocybin of course, but of a similar nature, and completely made up. Not sure how it happens.
