distillation results in a worse product than the actual teacher model iirc

Nobody care if Chinese models are only 99%, 95% or 90% as good as SotA US models.

Because we only have weights and able to self-host Chinese ones. Gemma 4 and GPT OSS are nice to have, but nowhere close to that.

patched with gpt 6

Yeah, with GPT 6 even OpenAI doesn't know what it's thinking.

this happens all the time anyhow. "originalism" is ironically a pretty new strain of thought

marxism (a materialist ideology) is incompatible with post-modernism, a post-truth ideology

a lot of attention given to phones, somewhat rightly so, but little to the rest of society. class -- can we think of any current events might lead to children being despondent about their future? anything at all going on in the world?

The dissolution of many of the financial/social cornerstones of our society such as: class mobility, third places, education, trust in your neighbor, privacy, meritocracy, free thinking (and the right to dissent), etc.

My question to the reader is this: Who benefits from this?

Compared to world wars, the threat of nuclear annihilation, widespread racism, etc.? No.

that's not violence

When it's -30c outside and your house hasn't had heating for days, you might disagree.

Is it violence if the power company disconnects you for non-payment, too?

IMO violence is a spectrum. Peaceful protesting with signs is 0 violence. Attacking self-driving cars or department stores without hurting any people is a bit higher up the scale. Attacking food supplies or critical infrastructure is higher still, as it will have downstream effects on everyone that might lead to death and suffering. Attacking actual human bodies is even higher up the scale of course.

I get your point though. There's a strong push to characterize destruction of property as violence, as part of a push to delegitimize protest. To some people, the police can use physical violence against people to stop a protest and that's okay, whereas if the protestors so much as throw a brick through a window, they're violent extremists.

the desktop ui is considerably nicer to use if you ever find yourself switching between terminal tabs
