You’re absolutely right. If you’ve been around industrial grade equipment, it’s painful to watch hobbyists fiddle with equipment that is not very productive, and soon abandoned.
You don't even need a commercial product like a ShopBot.
There are some good low-cost DIY projects and kits using Bosch palm routers. Repurposed 3D printer parts are far too wimpy for this.
