The test in the article actually has very few false positives. And who knows, maybe even those false positives were just extremely early cases of cancer.
Very few false positives: 0.5% false positive rate times 1,000,000 people screened translates into 5,000 false positives, which is in absolute terms not a small number. Those will take away resources from symptomatic patients.
