I guess there should be a checkbox, or maybe even a slider, for "how much do you care about this service?" or "how much does this service impact your life?"; if HN dropped off the face of the earth tomorrow, I'd be unhappy, but life would go on, whereas for many people a gmail account ban would be catastrophic.
