There is no nuance. Anyone in EE working in the industry can easily transition into software (in fact most of my peers migrated to ECE before even finishing their undergraduate, as soon as they understood the work prospects).
I love hardware and DeepTech but why would I make 3x to 4x times less with little to no chance of remote work from home in uncomfortable clean room/ESD gear.

Same with my ChemE degree didn’t want to work for oil companies, best alternative was switch to data stuff. Pay and work location/conditions did not make sense otherwise.
