Do they expect social media sites to show less posts of things you are interested or less posts from your friends to make you use it less. They provide good products which people like.

How do you know that people like them?

If the answer is "well, they keep using them". Then by that same definition, people like slot machines, cocaine, and over-eating junk food.

Is it a good, useful definition of "like" if it describes behavior that people feel compelled to do but are remorseful about after?

Social media sites literally have a ui affordance for liking a post.

Liking a post doesn't mean you like the app.

I made the assumption that people like interacting with things they like.

There's a difference between "things you are interested in" and "things that will make you addicted".
