I don't think it's just recent primaries. Our electoral system is heavily influence by the highest bidder and has been this way for a long time. There are always exceptions, like Massie, but the overall trend is that the majority of candidates who are elected at the federal and state level support and are supported by a few big monied interests. This includes the big healthcare industries, the war machine, the pro Israel lobby, etc. It's why we do things like the war in Iran that are vastly unpopular with the general public. And don't do things that are popular like single payer healthcare.
