White guy coming out of college in the late 80s/90s and wanting to get into tech was a rarely opportune hand.
As soon as I read "just redo your career every 2 years" I knew exactly what time period he was 22 during.
Either way a lot of people had similar backgrounds and didn't achieve anything like what he did.
