I worked remote. In Canada at least they had no problem with me working on a tourist visa provided I wasn't doing any direct business in Canada - i.e. couldn't get hired, couldn't work out of a clients office etc. I had a 10-15 minute interview about it at customs, I was completely honest, and they were fine with it. As an Irish national I was allowed 6 months there just from filling in a form when I landed.
